Esselcue, this is especially for you since you stated you work for the county. What do you do for the county? I ask because we are strongly considering coming to the area. We are making our first trip out there in 2 wks to look it over, but from everything I've seen and read it seems to be a great place for us. Just what we're looking for. Back to the county thing. My husband is a sheriff deputy in our county and I was wondering if they are always looking for deputies there. He is a tad older than most and in some counties his age seems to be a problem, he's 44. We would not be able to afford living in Prescott, so it would most likely be PV or some other area. Is it common to have to work in Prescott and live in other areas. Also I was wondering, our children attend a christian private school here and we are adament about maintaining that. Any info on christian schools there? I would really appreaciate any info. and thanks for your ever positive Prescott loving posts. We are really looking forward to seeing and I'm sure falling in love with the area.

Cntrygrl - esselcue will be able to give you good answers to your questions. As far as people living in some of the outlying areas and commuting into Prescott, many folks do that, because Prescott has been the main location for jobs. However, Prescott Valley has grown so much in recent years that there are quite a few jobs there, too. Chino Valley is still a fairly small town (10,000+/- pop) so there aren't as many jobs available there.
As far as schools go, here's a link to Chirstian Academy of Prescott. Christian Academy : Home I've known quite a few parents who are very pleased with that school.

Cntrygirl;
I work for the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office...I have worn many hats over the years, from deputy to PIO(spokesperson) to teacher/trainer, to inmate counselor...now I am doing inmate programs and forensic artwork and such. Getting near retirement. YSCO (Yavapai County Sheriff's Office) is always hiring, like most law enforcement agencies, and they welcome lateral transfers, both for road deputies and for Detention. I doubt his age would matter. Yavapai is a HUGE county an requires a lot of patrolling, plus it is mostly rural so most of our deputies are assigned suv's and many are also into outdoors activities. The county is divided into three sections: Northern, Southern and Eastern, and our deputies usually live in the section to which they are assigned. That can be as remote as Bagdad and Yarnell, or Black Canyon City and Verde Valley, or Ashfork, Seligman...Prescott itself is the county seat and is the Northern Section.
You can e-mail me directly at susan.quayle@co.yavapai.az.us
Good luck!!!
