Very thought provoking article by Mr. Mike Freeman over at CBS Sports.
Wonder what the NFL fans at C-D think about this content:
NFL isn't in danger of dying soon, but you can hear whispers - NFL - CBSSports.com News, Rumors, Scores, Stats, Fantasy

Interesting quote:

"The NFL is in an extremely difficult spot. In order to keep itself alive, it may have to lower the level of violence dramatically, but it is that level of intense violence that draws many fans. "

I think that the NFL is in danger.. its not imminent but its there.. the most damaging aspect is the players, current and ex, who are commenting about injuries and the risks involved saying they don't want their kids playing.. that really hurts the NFL IMO.

That's an understatement...

Surveys find that about one-quarter of the United States population, or between 75 and 80 million people, follow college football regularly.

Smile I love college football

I prefer college football - it just seems there is more action and the kids play their hearts out. More suprises too.

If they learn to tackle like they do in Rugby and Aussie football they will be fine.

I agree; combine the threat of serious injury with lawsuits, and the sport becomes both dangerous and expensive..

More and more parents are refusing to let their children play; definitely a growing trend..

One thing that people tend to overlook is players are bigger, faster, and stronger than they used to be. In the 80's you had linebackers who were 6'2 215 on many teams, now you have guys that are 6'5 270 playing linebacker and are extremely fast for their size as well. This holds true to most positions in football, especially when it comes to the front 7 for defense, and offensive lineman as well. Advancements in nutrition and medicine have allowed this.
