I got no hate for Chad Johnson. He didn't rip teams apart like TO did, most of his antics were harmless and to be honest I kind of got a chuckle out of them.

I wonder if he's playing for love of the game or because he's broke and needs a paycheck (albeit poverty compared to the NFL)?

Edit: Did a google search and found this:

Quote:
If nothing else, Chad Johnson’s 30 days in jail will result in less damage being done to his savings.

According to TMZ, the former NFL player’s expenses outpace his income by more than $45,000. Per month.
The information apparently comes from efforts by Johnson to reduce his monthly child support obligation, which would entail Johnson submitting evidence to the court regarding his full financial picture. Johnson supposedly earns only $3,000 per month, with more than $16,000 per month in support payments.

His other expenses total more than $30,000 per month, including $2,500 for food (doesn’t he eat McDonald’s?), $3,500 on clothing (child, please), $5,000 on entertainment (does he fly to Spain for bullfights every other week or something?), and $1,000 for pet expenses (there’s a very easy solution to that).

Working in Chad’s favor are assets of $4.7 million. But after playing in the NFL for a decade, he should have more than that in the bank.

At the current rate, Chad can make it another 104 months (roughly 8.5 years) before his expenses will eat away his assets. He’d still be in his early 40s if/when that happens.
Chad Johnson is $45,000 in the red every month | ProFootballTalk

Seems like just another dumb athlete that blew through millions and now has to sacrifice everything left in his body just to pay the bills.

I often wondered how fair child support payments were if they were based on income at the time he was playing and stayed at that figure after he was done. Not defending him, I am in a discussion right now about Vince Young, Alan Iverson etc and I'm with you, no sympathy for idiots.

It's sad really that a lot of these guys go broke. These guys were once millionaires, but because of foolishisness ,arrogance, and ignorance, they blow it all. So many of them, when they are young and have their physical skills, thumb their noses at the establishment. They have a certain amount of leverage. So they act like fools, Clowns, have kids everywhere, prance around like it is going to last forever. A lot of them treat the fans like crap and act like they are god because they can run fast, are tall, can dribble a ball, or just naturally big. Then age starts to set in, skills erode, muscle turns to fat, speed is gone and they have blown their money. If they just would have set money aside or invested a little, they would never have to work again. The smart ones realize this and set themselves up for future gigs after football, basketball, baseball, etc. They treat everyone with respect on the way up, cause you will probably see them again on the way down. Then the tables will be turned and they won't need you, but you will need them.

You can always tell the fools who don't learn that lesson. It's all fun and laughs while you still have the skills. Everyone thinks you are funny, laughs at your jokes, treats you like a god. You can prance around like a peacock thinking you are too good, posing for the cameras because everyone wants your autograph, wants the interview, etc. but soon that will be gone and people will remember how you were an immature clown and how you treated them. In the business world, people look for maturity. In the world of sports, if you have the physical skills, you can be an immature idiot and people will laugh. But when the skills erode, what are you going to do? So many of them haven't learned to grow up and how to treat people. That's why when the game is over, they are lost sheep. At that point, they began to look like the fools they were. Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide, no money to spend, and no job.
