Dont think its an issue, we can all root for the teams.
teams represent metro areas, not cities. And the Jersey shores of the Hudson are as NY metro every bit as much as Westchester or LI. More, when you consider how close in they are to Manhattan.

that's why nobody considers the Arlington Cowboys to be America's team
