Every game matters in the NFL. Win or lose the first two games of the regular season definitely does not feel like the preseason. The first new games could have no impact on the remaining 14 games but can have a huge impact on playoff implications.

What angle??

If your team starts 0-2, based on history of the last 10 years, your team has a 90% chance of missing the playoffs....it doesn't matter WHO is on your schedule for game 3...

0-2 means your team will almost certainly miss the playoffs....so yeah if you lose week 1, week 2 IS a must win game for all intents and purposes...

Oh, and if your team is 0-2, game 3 is ABSOLUTELY MUST WIN

In the Super Bowl era so 51 years, ONLY 5 TEAMS have ever made the playoffs after going 0-3....

So to answer your question, NO the early season is not an extension of preseason, not if your team hopes to be playing in the post season

So if a team starts 0-2 and the next two games are home against the Browns and Jags, is that 0-2 record still a big deal? Sometimes it all depends on what teams are coming up next which may allow the team to turn things around.

Yes, for many reasons.

First, if you're 0-2 then even teams like the Jags and Browns cannot be taken lightly. For that matter when you're 5-0 a team like the Browns can't be taken lightly. The 2015 Browns were 0-5 and took the 5-0 eventual Super Bowl champion Broncos to the mat in a 26-23 OT battle. It's the NFL: No team can be scoffed at especially when you're 0-2.

Also, even if you even up your record at 2-2, you still have 12 more games to play. If you're a team with playoff aspirations and start 0-2, improve to 2-2, then finish 9-7 and out of the playoffs, EVERYONE is going to look at that slow start and conclude it doomed the season, despite the ensuing 9-5 record.

Any game that matters in the final regular season standings matters. The difference between the least important regular season game and the most important preseason game of all time is not close: a regular season game is infinitely more important than a preseason game.

No matter how you slice it, no sane person can consider the first few regular season games an extension of preseason.

Some rather strange threads started in the pro football forum lately, which I guess happens after 6+ months of no football. Of course it matters. The first two weeks of the season only become an extension of the preseason the day Goodell pushes his dumb ideas enough and convinces enough owners to force feed the fans a playoff system that incorporates more teams making the playoffs than not. Then this topic might merit serious discussion.

I'm just saying I don't get as bothered by a loss in September as I would in late November and December.

Unless they start counting games in December as worth 1.5 games all games matter and they all count the same. What a bizarre thread this is. OP has had it explained why over and over, nobody has agreed with him/her, yet it still has not registered.

Do you think your team is going 16-0? Of course all the games matter but I am not a fan who gets upsets when my team loses a game the first week of the season.

With the Packers playing Seahawks, then Falcons, both in the NFC, losing those first two could make a major difference in the end of the season, big time. It will be upsetting if they lose both, and could happen.

Wow I never looked at their schedule and had no idea they started out against those two teams. Well atleast they have the seahawks at home so that's a plus for the Packers.
