The Vikings have had so many high first round choices in recent years because...poor play on the field. If they hadn't got on the LUCKY playoff run two years ago the truth would be apparent.
Great to finally see Vikes center Mick Tingelhoff (1962-1978) named as the only finalist to the HOF by the old-timers committee and should likely be confirmed just before the next Super Bowl. Mick played center at 230 lbs and never missed a game in his 17 years. He joins 5 other teammates (Tark, Page, Eller, Krause and Yary) and HC Bud Grant from those Super Bowl teams already in the HOF. Hope to still see Jim Marshall join them as well one day.

Tinglehoff is not only deserving, he should have went in the same time that Jim Langer of the Dolphins did. In that era offensive linemen always got short shrift from the NFL HOF committee regarding HOF entry. Langer was a 4 time Assoc. Press All-Pro center, Tinglehoff was a 5 time All-Pro Center. Langer goes into the Hall Of Fame in 1987 in his second year of eligibilty. Tinglehoff is finally now getting a mention.
And here is the crux of the matter, Super Bowls. Even back then Super Bowls was what tilted things regarding HOF induction. Dolphins win two super bowls in that era, Vikings don't. The thing that is ironic here is that after Mick Tinglehoff retired in 1979 Langer is traded to Minnesota before the 1981 season starts! I don't what the odds are when it comes to those sort of circumstances, but, heh, it's pretty odd!
Langer fortunately played with a team whose team dominated their division by default. The Bills, Jets, and the Patriots weren't competitive and sadly the records reflect that. Baltimore won SB-V but once Robert Irsay took over as owner (an interesting story there!) and hired Joe Thomas as G.M. a once proud and great franchise slowly and methodically exploded.
During this time frame Tinglehoff, after the snap from center, gets to face twice a year Alex Karras and Joe Schmidt of the Lions, Ray Nitschke, Dave Robinson, Henry Jordon and Willie Davis of the Packers--all are HOFers. Then there are the Bears--Doug Atkins and Bill George, both HOFers. THEN there is #51, specializing in snorting, spitting, barfing, nut grabbing, verbally threatening, and more. He also was voted by NFL Films as the 6th best player in NFL history.
If I looked up after I snapped the ball and saw Dick Butkus I'd call in sick twice a year.

After all, Langer was one of us before he was a fish, born in Little Falls, MN and played HS ball in nearby Royalton. Another of many of us to find all roads lead back home. Dave Casper (Bemidji) was another that comes to mind. Larry Fitzgerald likely will finish his career here as well.

The Langer Legacy continues. Grandson Cole started as a true freshman at South Dakota State. Already at 6' 2" and 295 pounds being a future NFL player is a solid possibility. He played running back in high school as well as basketball. He's got speed to go with power.
Vikes should be embarrassed by todays performance. They let the future franchise QB get beat like a rented mule. Sure, we lost AP but at least get a back who can catch...and some receivers as well.
A decent QB will shred our defense. Spielman better wise up. He did this to Bears & Dolphins too. There is more than one round in the draft.
Plus those last 2 games were against good-great defenses.
