Insinkerator

Rating: 5 out of 5
  • Currently 5.0/5.0

We have had the insinkerator food waste disposer for six years in this house but have also had the same product in our other homes. The product has been very reliable as long as we use it properly. We had to have it fixed one time because we peeled potatoes and put too many of the peels down it at once. The repairman explained that you have to put them in slowly and only a little bit at a time. You also have to be careful not to let silverware, coins, metal of any kind or plastic in it. All of these items will cause a lot of trouble and you'll have to repair or replace the insinkerator. The product is very easy to use. You simply turn the sink water on, hit the switch next to our light switch and let it run for a few minutes when there's food in the sink. The prices on these food waste disposers are all very similar and come out to between $150-$250. One nice feature for fixing this is they come with a little wrench. If it stops working right you simply take the wrench and turn a crank and it works again provided it's not something more serious. A few negative things about this product is the fact that when they sell it they advertise it that you can put pretty much any food down them at any speed. The service people always tell you the opposite so it takes away a little bit of the credibility of the product. The other negative is that food sometimes sits on the sides of the black part leading down to the garbage disposal and is very hard to clean off. You can't see it so sometimes it just starts to smell. Overall, though, it's a good product.
