The Symmetry HC820 HypoCycloidal Trainer is a beast of a machine in so many ways, perhaps the most obvious is its sheer size. The machine is huge and heavy enough that it took three grown men to carry it into the house and once it was put together, is nearly seven feet long and nearly five feet tall. Another beastly quality is its price tag. At $2.600.00 the HC820 is prohibitively expensive.
While I have heard a number of people complain about the HC820, voicing concerns about how its tubes and pedals don't work properly for them, or how its mechanisms routinely break down, I have never had a problem with it.
For me the HC820 works like a charm. Not only is it nearly silent and have the smoothest of possible glides, but it has foot pedals that keep you securely in place so that your feet don't slip off in mid-stride. You can choose any number of programmed workouts or opt for a manual routine. You can increase your incline until your elliptical has quite literally become a step machine and you can also adjust your resistance level so you get a quite decent weight workout into the bargain. As with any electronic gym machine today, you can keep track of your time, strides, miles per hour, heart rate, calories burned and any number of other features. You can get the best out of these readouts though by programming in your weight so that you get the most accurate readings. In fact, the only real down side to this machine is the fact that it does not have arm handles to give the total upper body workout to go with the lower body workout.
All in all, apart from its price tag, and seeing as that either myself, my wife or one or the other of my daughters uses it every day, I would have to say that it is an excellent quality machine for the price.
