Yes -- in the usual sense of the word, it's actually not the "feminist". The "white knight" looks for damsels in distress to rescue. He doesn't believe they can take care of themselves obviously, usually he is rescuing the fair lady from another man -- her previous white knight that has turned on her as this one will also unless he wisens up and gets over being a white knight.

He views women as helpless victims --- if only he is there, he can make everything right for her.

It's normal enough for a guy 16 to 24 or so years of age to be a white knight -- but most wisen up and begin to realize that the reason the lady must always be rescued by him comes down to she herself. A male feminist is a different kind of creature -- by most ways people use the terms.

A white knight is born from misogyny, not feminism...just thought I'd clear that up. Personally I dislike the term feminist...I prefer the word humanist.

I'm framing this differently, now, with this information. This person probably resented his mother, who was cold, stern, and controlling, and probably resents his wife, who was just like his mother and, furthermore, sold him on a religion other than the one he was born into. I guess championing these little twits made him feel like the man he wasn't.

Interesting contribution, IB.

OP, are you sure of your definition of "White Knight"? I thought a White Knight was just a nice guy, you know, the old-fashioned kind, who opened doors for women and carried their luggage. What's this "male feminist" thing?

OK, this definition makes more sense.

You must have missed the memo. Among interweb dudes, a guy who gets along with women and who may take a woman's side over a man's is a "white knight." They go against the brotherhood and don't treat women like the enemy, see.

It's when they can't weigh the facts and criteria, and decide on a gender-blind basis, reliably taking the woman's point of view. What you are describing is a "gentleman." They are different things.

Fleetie, I'm a little too practical and schooled to think of this as defection from the "brotherhood." It's indeed problematic when it's a pattern, and when several people observe it and question it, including some of the older guys in an ownership position who told this person NOT to bring back these female employees after being employed while in college, either part-time or during the summers.

Whenever folks have some sort of gender-related quirky behavior, whether they're pro- or anti-female (or male), somehow it usually ends up being connected to how they related to one of their parents. For example, I worked at a place once that had a somewhat similar situation, where the male manager would give the proverbial shirt off his back to any female employee who sought his aid, even though he was always very hard and demanding on the male employees. In fact he would even defend obviously unprofessional behavior in some women, including ignoring gross incompetence and even theft by female employees of vendors!

And after awhile it was pretty obvious to most folks that he was simply accustomed to the role of being subservient when dealing with any females in his life. Another woman employee who was familiar with his family, once commented that he came from a family of very ''strong-willed'' women! Like learning to become independent, more assertive, confident, etc., some folks eventually grow out of their childhood roles, and some don't!

Thank you for the bold. This is what was experienced.
