Does anyone else get annoyed when people ask, "Is there anyone sitting here?"

I don't see why people just don't sit. I was at the dealership, getting some work done. And everyone kept asking me, "Is there anyone sitting here?" I felt like saying, "Does it look like anyone is sitting there?"

Am I being rational or just b*tchy?

Choice number 2.

People are known to save seats for others or possibly the inquirer was concerned about taking the seat of someone who went to get coffee or something.

Yep, I grew up here. Maybe it has to do with being a native New Yorker?

#2.

People ask because they dont' know if you had someone with you and they got up to pee or get a drink or talk to the tech.

You can reply with "Does it look like anyone's sitting here?!" but don't be surprised when someone says "I was being polite and making sure, BIT*H!!"

Who knows, maybe you are saving the seat for someone in the bathroom or someone whose been held up.

How does the poor sap looking for a seat know?

They don't just want to plunk their butt down and put YOU in the position of having to tell them they can't sit there.
