I used to think smoking was disgusting and I would never do it. I have never even so much as puffed on a cigarette until I was 25. Well, now, I have become a smoker. I don't do it to be cool. I actually consider it a private and relaxing thing. I like to do it in my room when I'm working. It gives me a nice high that things I used to like just can't give me anymore (I don't even like drinking anymore. Just give me a cigarette or a cigar and a quiet evening and a nice book and I'm good). My grandfather and father used to smoke. I watched them smoke as I was growing up. I do it but I still find it disgusting. The last year was probably one of the most stressful years I've had to endure. When I mentioned to my friend how my grandfather used to smoke and drink all day, his only response was, wow, he must have had a tough time. Guess I never thought of it that way before until I'm going through a really tough time and just want a smoke.

It's an addictive drug, which is why people keep smoking. A couple of cigarettes to be cool or fit in, or look like the movie stars and then quitting becomes a problem.

From what I've seen/heard/experienced, it's
a) 'because everybody else does,' or
b) addicted to it, or
c) habit.

Usually it is, but not for everyone. I smoke once a day or so mainly because I find it relaxing like GK; however, if I have too many, that effect will wear off for me and it won't have much of an effect at all. I noticed that if I don't have a cigarette in a while and am real stressed out, smoking one will have this huge calming effect. I think it's a good thing that it doesn't have that effect on me all the time, else I would be addicted.

How much are they in everyone's area.
$9.18 for a name brand in Minneapolis. I enjoy it a lot, familiar with risks, etc... Maybe if we talk about costs it will coax us to stop? Anyone ever tried Chantix?

Around $4-$5 for most name brands in Virginia. I just bought 1.41 oz of American Spirit tobacco for around $7. I'm not greatly addicted. I only enjoy about 1 or 2 a day as well. If I go home for break I won't bring my ciggies and I can not smoke for weeks.
