Unfortunatly I am retired so my days are very long. Also alone but my have many things to do when home. I have a video library, many wonderful books,my Reminise and Good Old Days magazines, old lps, satellite radio and my tablets. Lots of windows and get the sunshine through. Have always had to look after myself since my husband passed five years ago. Adult children work but help do things for me and stop for visits but most often just like my quiet.
But don't you get a lot of rain. I live in south Texas and generally very sunny, but lately we have been getting record rainfall. Just stays cloudy and gloomy for days. We are in one of those cycles right now.
Dark, rainy days are hard on people with certain types of arthritis like mine I can feel rain coming for a few days usually.I am more tired and achy and don't have much energy.
Rainy days also affects people with breathing problems. The humidity in the air isn't as easy to get a good breath.
I find one thing that really helps me through the dark fall and long winter months is having a holiday booked for a week to the sunny south... either a cruise, a condo, or an all inclusive. Just having that to look forward to really helps.
I'd love to book a condo for a month somewhere warm, but that hasn't been in our plans yet. Hubby loves the winter... go figure.
I go to my local Church of Christ and read the Bible every chance I get....and I long for death because it will be the ultimate victory and sweet peace.....that is how I cope.....I also have pale skin and I am Transylvanian I kid you not.......death has always comforted me....
I love the cold and the dark, it makes me happy. I can't stand the heat and extreme sunlight.
You must have extreme Nordic genes somewhere. I know I do, lol!
I find the sun even in the Mid-Atlantic state where I live (VA) relentless and oppressive in the summer. I feel soothed by rainy days. And I find the hours of darkness starting about now a real blessed relief. But I am a quiet scholar by nature. There is some truth to that old image of "midnight scholar, burning the candle low". Yup, I stay up till all hours reading.
