I'm more afraid of getting Alzheimer's, though. My beloved grandma lived to be 90...but the last full decade of her life was of garbage quality, due to dementia. I was around her for most of it, and it was horrific.

No, the biggest fear is that you will survive your children. Trust me on this. Nothing can be more devastating than losing your children while you still survive.

My textbook knowledge. I'm too young to have children, but I can imagine.

Descending into dementia while raising children, and having them witness you vanishing in front of them is a pretty devastating prospect, trust me.

I am in my mid 70's now and writing while at work. I want to keep going as long as I can take care of myself and have a clear mind.

Worldwide, the average life expectancy at birth is around 71 years (68 years and 6 months for males and 73 years and 6 months for females).

I don't want to live past my mid-80s. When I get to the point where frailty and diminishing mental and physical powers make it difficult to care for myself, I'll be ready to go.

Probably in my mid 40s during a drug-addled, sex-crazed escapade induced by a feverish mid-life crisis.

Paul McCartney was in his 20s once, too, and this is when he said: "will you still feed me / When I'm sixty-four?" How dreadfully old 64 must have seem to him! Look at him now, at 75, newly married, singing tours, etc... All this is to say that in one's 20s, the age perspective is largely screwed.
