For those caught up in a relationship that started out really great but slowly dwindled down to constant criticism and a general feeling of unhappiness.... sometimes seeing something like this might bring things into focus. it's not like the person started out like this.

Quite true. Many are very smart and break the other down very, very slowly and they do not see it. Even people who normally would see it coming a mile away. If they are smart and subtle and slow about it.....they can ensnare and the abused party might need help to see it.

I agree.

There's a huge difference between toxic and psychopath, and one is much more common than the other.

I don't disagree. Especially since I'm recognizing some of the traits in my own relationship. I've always suspected mental health issues but wouldn't go so far as psychopath. The title of the thread is the title of the article.

What do we call one that is happy to relinquish all rights to their own child?

I have no idea. Sounds like a separate thread to me.

The point is that not everything can be neatly summarized by a buzzword, and you can't just call a jerk a psychopath because you checked off an online list. It's not the same thing as reading a list of the "best summer superfoods" or the "top 10 exercises to get a better butt."
