At work, I can always be trusted to follow through, not forget anything, and present great ideas. Yet at home, I am so scatterbrained that I skip pages when I put pics in a photo album, forget minor stuff all the time, etc. People at work would never suspect what a dummy I was at home. Are there actual different parts of the brain that function at work versus home? This is a serious question.

Because the work environment provides more structure, and requires a certain level of performance. You're being paid to hold it together.

Because you, like me, have to be extremely "ON" at work and entrusted to glue it all together for half dozen projects and a dozen people.

At home, I could give a ____ . People can run their own lives, I'm done with it and seldom plan in high detail unless it's a show or important reservation. Mental switch = OFF, meaning I could give a damn at the speed of light until it's back in the lights and judging eyes the next morning. To me, it's a level of effort thing vs. different parts of the brain, but who knows.

I'm told I'm not as joie de vivre as I imagine in the personal life, but I do try and introduce a certain amount of chaos in my travels within boundaries (those being: the plane leaves at (x) time from (y) airport and we're staying at (z) motel).

Maybe you are just more interested in your job responsibilities than the home responsibilities. Or maybe you are just tired after working.

When you're at work, you HAVE TO do it. When you're at home, you don't, so your brain relaxes.

At work, your co-workers and boss are expecting you to do your job, so that lights a fire under your butt to get things done.

At home, when you don't put your photos in correctly, nothing will happen. Are you going to yell at yourself? Are you going to fire yourself? Nope.

I can totally relate to this. When I worked in an office environment, my office was perfectly organized. I mainly worked as an executive assistant or office manager, and when my boss walked in and started a sentence like, "Do you have the file on..." I could instantly put my hand on the file and hand it to him before he finished his sentence.

At home....total mayhem, mess, disorganized slob LOL. I guess, because I could.

Plus, I don't think most people have the kind of energy it would take to be that together for 40+ hours, and then also be that way for the rest of the week anywhere else. Our brains do need a break. As well as our bodies.

Home has different distractions, a different context and atmosphere.

That's like a couple of outstanding math and physics professors I knew, who couldn't even make the flashing 12:00 on their VCR clocks go away. I had to make house-calls several times, to set them, as they couldn't remember how to do it. But somehow, they both learned to use computers (after enrolling in bonehead computer classes for a couple of terms).

The sofa and netflix--they are a constant distraction, I can hear them: "Come on, you have worked hard today. Sit down and relax for a few". The sofa is evil--it can put a spell on me for hours! I try to stay away from it!
