NICE fish! Broad daylight, too. I'm impressed. What did he hit, Dave?

Nice fish!! That's what I'm talking about!!
I have been travelling and travelling and travelling. Almost non-stop since before Christmas. Finally I get to hang around here for a while, and I will certainly get some fishing in - if the weather stays calm for a few days!!

Today though, I have some paperwork I have to catch-up on.

Windy out in the harbor today, so after a failed drift attempt for fluke we started trolling plugs...pretty much non-stop sea trout, redfish and ladyfish. Not much size to the redfish unfortunately, but kept some legal trout to cook up.

Took an hour to cruise out to the harbor with the GF. Lots of boats but slack tide so only managed a few ladyfish. Still fun.

I've read a few people eat and love these ladyfish...anyone try them yet? I know they are boney (sp), but heard if smoked you can scrape the meat off with a spoon and they are delicious....may try it someday.

Great weather this weekend, get out there!.

I fished the upper harbor today and knocked 'em dead. Seatrout, sugartrout, redfish, ladyfish, one sheepshead and one stingray. Most caught and released. Nonetheless, a beautiful day on Alligator Bay, north of the Charlotte Beach Complex. We could see the condos at Burnt Store from here. Gorgeous!

Reds were all under the mangroves. Biggest one was 15". So pretty. All in all, about 40 fish landed.

Nice MA, if you were one of the two boats fishing that area around 4:00 I might have seen ya.... I try not to go out there on the weekends, but did today and will be back out tomorrow afternoon.

I only trolled out to where the markers stop and then turned around and headed right home, all 3 fish were caught right by the beach channel intersect (red/green marker). Didn't see any trout or redfish, I blamed the slack tide . Didn't have the time today but will put a few hours in tomorrow.

How do I tell a sugar trout from a regular seatrout/speck? Same regs? Same eating? Thanks!

Fishin' Franks has a great fish identification link on his website.
After further review...my sugar trout were really sand trout, also known as silver trout. The difference is no specks/spots like on the speckled trout. Same fangs on the top of the mouth, similar colors but silver trout have purple on the mouth. No bag or size limit on silver trout but I released them since they were only about 12". By the time I would fillet it, there wouldn't be enough meat to justify killing him.

I'm getting better at learning what fish I have on the line, based on how they strike, pull and fight.
