Hey, anybody know where you can pick up cheap birdseed(black oil sunflower) around here. I'm feeding up to a dozen or more Cardinals in the backyard here, and really enjoy watching them, but we're going through 20lb. bags(Walmart) every few weeks. We dont get squirrels (so far)where were at so its just the birds, and I was wondering if anyone knows a place where you can maybe buy in bulk at a cheaper price.

I have a bunch of cardinals that visit every day. They eat all seeds, not just sunflower seeds. I started throwing the seeds on the ground in a sandy area for the doves and discovered that it also attracted cardinals, bluejays, starlings, sparrows, a yellow bird that may have been someones pet, and an assortment of seasonal hanging around for a few days birds.
If you have a birdbath, you will also attract non-seed eaters like woodpeckers and mockinbirds.

We love our Cardinals...of course, we're from Arizona so we should. We had the pleasure of watching them nest and hatch in 2010 right outside our lanai window.

We have a birdbath that is very popular with all the birds. There have been a plethora of Mockingbirds this year. They also gave birth this year outside our living room window, in a yucca tree. I know they can be aggressive, so I kept my distance.

We've never fed them, we just water them. We also have our share of squirrels, raccoons, black racers (snakes), snales, geckos, bobcats, manatee...(sigh)....but this thread is for birds, so that's enough. Have I mentioned the Cardinals (AZ) open training camp this week?
