Well, we saw people with boats, trailers, RV's and pop-up campers on their driveway everywhere when we were looking for our house. We bought our house and then bought a boat. Then our neighbor puts his house on the market..then a week later we get a certified letter from the City of North Port. Apparently, the city statue says you cannot have anything like above on your driveway. It has to be on the side of your home and covered by a fence or landscaping in that 80% or more of the item is covered from your neighbors view. According to the code inspector, they look the other way...UNLESS someone complains. I can only assume the real estate agent for the buyer next door complained on behalf of their client.

Sec 25-19F

So, now we are stuck finding a place to store our 22' boat. Does anyone have a place we can either store the boat on trailer or a house with an open slip to rent?

Thanks,

Call Extra Space Storage on Paulson. They have a 8x30 spot for $75 a month and first month free. But you can ask about the special for $64 a month. New Customer: (877) 913-3149

My boyfriend Dave use to store his dump trailer and flatbed trailer there for years when we lived in North Port.

Is that a North Port statue or are you in a HOA? Sounds like BS to me that in all of North Port you can't park a registered vehicle in the driveway.

HR,

Called an attorney on this one..is legit.

F. Cars and trucks may be parked in the front yard (including the driveway) and the
adjacent City right-of-way. The front yard is that area that extends from the wall of the
dwelling unit that parallels the road and to the road right-of-way and typically contains the
front door.
(1) Corner lots shall have one (1) front yard as described above.
(2) Boats, trailers, recreational vehicles, semi-trucks are not considered as cars or trucks

This is what MUST be done to keep the above in bold on your property

H. Any remaining vehicles may be parked in the side and rear yards, provided that the
vehicles shall be buffered so as to be at least eighty percent (80%) opaque from the adjacent
residential lots and any right-of-way. The eighty percent (80%) opaque requirement only
applies to the length of the parking area adjacent to a residential lot and/or any right-of-way.
If the adjacent property owner(s) concurs in writing that no buffer is needed, the property
owner shall submit such written consent to the Department. In such event, and for only corner
lots, the eighty percent (80%) opaque requirement shall apply only to that portion of the
parking area adjacent to the road. If the adjacent property changes ownership, the applicant
shall submit an additional letter of consent signed by the new owner in order to qualify for this
exemption as described above.

Do you have room to put gravel and park it on the side of your driveway. Then try to get the new owners to sign off on the buffer? If and when the house next door sells. Dave put cement on our North Port house to make a partial 3rd driveway and then gravel next to it where it sloped down. He asked the utility company for permission to go into the side setback and they granted it. That is where he parked his work Van. Not sure if this will work for you, but maybe an option. In the meantime, you may have to store it somewhere. Here is a photo I copied from Google Maps.

Tammy,

Thought about that..however the left side of the house has the water equipment..so thats a no go. The right side of the house has the septic..no go.

Plus, what happens if the house on the next door sells and the new owner doesn't like it?. That statue is not very clear if the home ownership changes??

Is a boat on a trailer not considered an RV, or equal to one? The wording is not very clear.

D. A property owner may substitute a boat with trailer for either another utility trailer or
another recreational vehicle.
E. A property owner may substitute a utility trailer or a recreational vehicle for a second
boat. No other substitutions may be made.

O. Recreational vehicles (RVs) shall not be parked or stored on any residentially zoned
property except within a completely enclosed structure or in the required side and required
rear yard, provided the vehicle is not parked or stored within the required rear yard setback,
and provided that the buffering and neighbor consent requirements in Sec. 25-19(H) above are
satisfied. The intent of the following requirements is to insure that the vehicles do not become
unsightly and negatively impact the residential neighborhood. The RV may be parked in the
front yard and required front yard provided: [Amended 1-14-2002 by Ord. No. 2001-15;
amended 1-30-2012 by Ord. No. 2011-32]
(1) Said vehicle is parked on an improved surface, which shall be kept in a proper state of
repair and maintained free from hazardous conditions.

As long as it's registered and on your driveway I don't see how they should have any say...HOA, different story.

Anyway, try craigslist for boat storage. There is one guy near me that rents spaces on his empty lot that is surrounded by trees. There is probably someone like that closer to you.

Where would I look (Craigslist I guess) for a home with dock space for rent?
