What they do now is record the fuel in the car when you pick it up then they want you to bring it back to them at the same level on the gauge, which is not possible.
They currently charge $5.25 per gallon if you bring it back with less.

They have another option, which I usually do. I pre-buy a full tank at and bring it back empty. Then I don't need to worry about finding a place, or a station near by that gouges you. I think when you do that the price they charge for the gas is a lot lower still.

As I mentioned I rent all the time because I travel fairly often. Gas stations near travel centers charge ridiculous prices.

Ahh, that's right, now I remember- it's been a while, but we rented a car here in PG in 2011, from Enterprise. They do want you to bring back the car with the gas at the same level on the gauge that it was when you picked it up- well, good luck with that! I guess they figure that this is the best way to get a customer to pay for a little extra gas, maybe?

I don't know where I saw a price of $8.00 for gas- maybe it was the Obama's promise to push "clean energy" agenda in 2008....

Well I returned the car at RSW at 6 AM this morning, and I must say they treated me very well. A very nice young lady was happy and polite and was in a good mood for being at work so early. As I understand the company they move you around and make you do all of the jobs that are required to function. She told me she didn't mind the early hours, what she really didn't like was washing and cleaning all the vehicles when they are returned. She said that Enterprise is the only company that cleans the car after each rental, which you can notice if you look
I also have to say that the PC office was nice as well.

Clint

Thanks Clint for the update and follow up.
As I mentioned I use them a lot, and I've found they provide everything as expected, and do a good job getting you in and out in timely fashion.

I normally don't like to give out reference, but when I find that someone or some business does a good job, I like to stand up and say so.

That's been our experience with Enterprise too- both in this neck of the woods and elsewhere when we rented a car from them. It's good to know things haven't changed.

My thanks for the update too, Clint.

Enterprise at PG airport's great. Have used them several times. The gas price is by & large about the same as the local station price. If you're just going to be putzing around town, unless you've got a lead foot, you'll never use much gas so pre-paying for the full tank isn't worth it. We used PG as a base on our last trip and drove all over the place, and it was piece of cake to just drop the car off and rush to the terminal without worrying about gas tank fill up.

Ive used Enterprise and a few others over the years. I always take photos of the car with my phone of the exterior and interior with the rep present the take photos when turning in. Never had had a problem and if I did the photos were a backup. Just a thought.

I tried to rent there and it said to go to Alamo counter. I then checked Alamo prices and they were less.

Thanks for the tip, we'll keep that in mind!

We have used Alamo a couple times as well, since we typically book online in advance and look for the best deal (we don't care which rental agency) using any combo of points, coupon codes, specials, etc. If you have that flexibility (time), it really makes a difference.

For example, I just priced a "standard" size car rental online 2 weeks out for a 3 day weekend rental, Enterprise was $41.27/day, Alamo was "pay now" (cheaper) price @ $54.50/day, and Budget was "pay now" @ $36.67/day. So in this case, Budget was best.

Enterprise Holdings owns both National Rental, and Alamo rental. Hertz owns Budget and Avis. I really don't know why they haven't re-branded the other agencies under their own name, but I think it is planned.

In trucking, I know Enterprise also bought Penske. I'm not sure what Hertz owns in the trucking rental beside the Budget Trucks you probably see.
