Don't get me wrong, I love Florida, even the high temp in the summer don't bother me too much, but wife was pretty much destroyed by mosquitoes while we were there last Christmas. I fared better but also left a few souvenir tattoos. And we all used repellent. Hence the questions:

Hmmm...that is odd. Are you sure they were mosquitoes? I've seen almost none, and we've been here a year. Maybe they were no-seeums? They LOVE me! But OFF keeps them away in my experience.

The only time the mosquitoes bother me is during the wet summer when I’m mowing the lawn. The green belt at the rear of my lot stays wet during the rainy season and they wait on me to get close then attack. One of the best things I’ve found is spraying with Deet. I use the dry spray for regular outdoor activities(and I’m outside all the time), but when I mow I use a spray that is somewhat oily and doesn’t sweat off. I’d give you the product names but it’s in the garage and I don’t feel like getting up.

During the summer, rainy season will be the high mark. I am outside just about all the time except when it gets too cold. I find that sundown is the witching hour for the most part. An hour before and after would be the "no go" zone for people that seem to attract them.

We've got quite a few in South Gulf Cove right now. The county fogged last night but it's still pretty bad. I live in the northern "sailboat" section and it's apparently not as bad here as the southern sections, but I received 4 or 5 bites in a minute or two this morning around 11:00am and I'm not usually a target...

The mosquitoes have been pretty bad this winter on the Ackerman, even during daylight hours. We've had the county's truck spraying the neighborhood twice already this year. I don't remember them being bad other past winters; only during the summer and even then only at dusk and dawn.

they are usually not too bad, BUT right now there has been a big hatch and they are pretty thick..me and my ol dog got tore up the other afternoon while walking down at live oak park on Bayshore road..and it was a bright sunny day..hopefully they won't last to long..you can even request spraying in your neighborhood on the Charlotte county website..
