Crime is no worse than most other areas of the country, some posters like to put up crime stories on City-Data every time something happens, well, that can be done anywhere in the U.S. so it doesn't really mean that much.

As for the foreclosures, Well, thats a good news, bad news thing. If you bought your house(s) at the top of the housing bubble and didn't see that sooner or later it was going to burst, you probably got upside down on it. If you can't make the high payments. the next step is foreclosure.

Many people came to SW Florida to buy up or flip properties, payed a high price during the boom and used short term ARMs or no intrest loans to do so, many made big money, and a lot of those people got stuck when the burst came. Instead of losing money, they walked away and let them go into foreclosure. Ask me if I feel sorry for them

BUT, If you are looking to buy!!! well that's a different story. You can get GREAT deals right now Foreclosed homes are selling cheap.

Or instead thier businesses lost so much revenue they had to close, went into debt, and lost thier homes... Not all just walked away for fun.

Oh, no doubt, I'm sure that kind of thing happened a lot, BUT that happens EVERYWHERE, Florida doesn't hold a monopoly on business failures.

To avoid this, you simply should not buy a house that you can't easily make the payments on. So many folks buy houses they can't afford or have done nothing to keep their payments low...rent and save save save, and then buy an affordable house and put a large downpayment on it. Way too many people want it now, and want it new, and want it big, without proper income.

Also buying a home when the entire financial world was warning us of the housing bubble and they were trying to predict when it would bust, well, that's just a bad decision!

My mother and step father bought thier house in 2001 in CC. They were fine, but my step father came up with a great plan to open a restaurant in 2007.... Then the downhill run began. It opened and was doing great, season ended, that was it... Slowly but surely it died. Mistake was using the house as collateral. Then without a job, things got worse. It was rough for them, but they accepted it and new it was a shot in the dark. They are ok now, but losing the house was tough.

Well, that does suck! but it has nothing to do with Florida, It happens everywhere! all over the U.S. and the restaurant biz is tough!! nearly all fail sooner or later. it's too bad.

Is this the "Everywhere USA" post or a post specifically about SWFL?

Since it may be the "Everywhere USA" post, guess comparing everything to everything is the answer??

So confused..........................................

Yeah, but when you've never lived in SWFL I think it is easier to compare it to Everywhere USA for the sake of debate for debate; really no substance to it all.

No one has said things haven't been bad in other cities.

But this isn't what this post is for...and it's an very old post to boot.
