Since retirement and going thru some joint issues and some financial stresses, I got rid of cable.

I have NO TV and don't miss it.

Have found NPR so informative, lots on great human stories on some of their segments and even a lot of comedy...to the point that I belly laugh with some of the comics.

Anyone relate.

Always loved NPR. We can find it most places where we've lived. Rational, normal news, and other lovely programs.

Listening to it right now. Calming but engaging.

I got rid of my TV in the 90's. (Stopped listening to the radio completely, too.) NPR is nothing more than political Kool-Aid and I stopped drinking that, too.

Like you, I haven't missed any of it. Heck, I'm almost over the internet, too!

Assume you meant "a snooze fest," Gentlearts. I've found NPR varies greatly depending on where you are in the country, since it's mostly run locally, with a few national staples thrown in.

I do like their in-depth programming and affiliated American Public Media, with informative programs like Marketplace.

They tend to fall flat sometimes on the comedy, but that may be just because of who they have doing it (i.e. Garrison Keillor might be a super nice guy but his Lake Wobegon show is quite boring, to be honest).

However, altogether, they run circles around the cable programming (with its mindless "news" channels, irrelevant (to me anyway) sports programming, infomercials, "reality" shows about pawn shops, etc.), and it's not even a close call of which is a better value for keeping up with what's going on and a more pleasant use of time.

BBN is good to sleep to also (not because of it being boring, but because the hosts have consistent & even voices).

I still have an OTA antenna and do like the traditional 6:30 PM news, just because it also gives a good synopsis of what's going on in the world, and a few other very select shows and local weather (and sometimes local news- though the quality on that can be hit or miss), but I don't miss pay cable at all.

Political Kool-Aid?

The Moth Radio Hour? This American Life? Radio Lab? American Routes? Science Friday? How I Built This?

All right. Keep telling yourself that.

I love Wait, Wait and enjoy A Way with Words (I think that's the show's name).

I never was a fan of Lake Woebegone. I don't understand the popularity but of course, to each his/her own. I don't think it's improved even though Garrison Keillor retired.

Despite it being financed in part by tax $$$, I find it biased, a veritable left-wing haven of horse****.
