I'm in Ossining & am thinking hard about finally chucking the cable box for good. I'm looking into local tv antennas but don't have a good idea which would be good for my area.
Suggestions? Thanks!
* addendum: I should've mentioned I'm in an apartment, not a house.

Did it years ago. Watching Seattle/Panthers right now.
One has to be prepared to accept the big 3 networks and lots of old (no copyright) shows but picture quality is perfect if your < +/- 30 miles from the transmitter and you can easily stream digital data from computer to TV so Internet can substitute for Cable.
Thanks, Vac'. I'll definitely put that link on a list of possibilities. I'm not sure if that one would work out for me only b/c I'm in an apartment & the window is covered with a permanent screen.
Depending on your cable provider there are cheaper methods besides a cable box. Certain cable companies provide devices called DTA boxes which are very small boxes that converts the signal to HD and gets a channel guide but no listings. Not sure if cablevision provides them but time warner does for $2.50 a month.
Got rid of cable 3 weeks ago. Cablevision is/was running a deal for Internet only with 50/50 speed for like $45/month that included a Mohu Leaf antenna thrown in for free. The antenna is pretty amazing. It's the size of a Manila folder and just as thin. Placed it in my southern facing window on the first floor, ran the cable into the basement, used a splitter to feed 2 TVs and then a 50ft run of additional cable to one tv and 25 feet to another. Hi-def signal comes in great and set up only required a simple channel scan. Channel 4 is the only one that gives me any trouble. Gets like 40 channels (NYC, CT and Jersey). I'm in White Plains with a clear line of sight to my south. I understand your hesitance..I was too...my advice is to buy a Leaf from a physical store where returns are easy, see what kind of reception you get, and if it's crappy then just return the sucker...the test install won't damage the packaging or effect the antenna.
Added Netflix and Hulu for $20/month, and already getting Amazon video as part of my Prime membership. Put the modem and router right under my main TV and plugged an Apple TV in to the router instead of going over wifi...highly recommend this setup. Thinking about eating the one time $50 fee and adding a ObiHai box with Google Voice for free phone service. Saving around $100/month and don't miss cable at all. But I'm not big on watching sports...if you are, it's a big road block to cutting cable.
Thanks, Tommy- I'm definitely saving the Mohu Leaf on my To Try list. I'll probably end up getting on Prime Amazon where it shouldn't be a problem to return.
