You can add country powerhouse 99.5 TheWolf in DFW, arguably the #1 country station in the nation which is live and local except for the overnight hours with much of its airstaff having been there for well over a decade.

Chicago still has WGN (talk/sports), WBBM (news), WSCR (sports) along with some others that are almost all local. Corporate takeovers have ruined the industry imho.

WBZ in Boston still has live shows but not as many as they used to. They were just bought by iheart and you can stream it.

They used to have different personalities all day but now it's news all day. The programming starts at 8pm EST with one guy and midnight til 4am with other people, usually it's Bradley Jay. I like Bradley Jay but he's gone a lot, traveling the world--can't blame him because the guy before him was fired just as he was signing off his show at 4am!!!!!!!!!! Someone walked into the studio and handed him a note to read on the air saying this was good bye. We got an online petition and got him back. He stayed for a while but I think he was so disgusted with that treatment that he retired early.

People call in and talk. Right now the topic is ancient Rome, Caesar Augustus, no one can call in because he has a guest in the studio. Later, they'll have some topics and people will be calling and they'll be discussing all kinds of things. Sometimes the topic is dogs. or cats.

Ifartradio is the EPITOME of Amerikan cookie-cutter commercial radio. Give it about 3-4 months, all the local people will be gone and they'll be simulcasting the exact same satellite-fed programming that 200 other stations across the country are running. Go to the station and you probably won't find a soul in the building apart from the receptionist (ceremonial; to fulfill FCC regulations) and maybe a janitor (ceremonial; so they can say they hire "diversity" and to pick up after the ceremonial receptionist).

The long commutes of many radio listening drivers push the radio market towards high power broadcasting to reach all of a metro area. To pay the electric bill and other expenses for that level of broadcast they seek more ad revenue and less local labor. That is how radio will probably stay until people drive much less and suburban sprawl contracts back into urban cores.

You are right about that. Besides the syndicated shows, I also listen to several of the local community shows in Alaska. One of them is about local news, events, and so on. Another is about guns and hunting, another about medicines and their uses (symptoms and medication, allergies, etc.), and another about automobiles (callers ask questions about solutions or repairs).

KZOK 102.5 here in Seattle, a classic rock station that I listen to at work all day. The morning show is hosted by Danny Bonaduce, starting at 5:45am. The first hour or so is more talk than music, mostly local topics.

Hi there. I'm a disc jockey that's live and local in Lakeland, Florida on WWAB 1330 "Boss Hogg Radio". The sister stations WHNR 1360 (Winter Haven) and 1170 WKFL (Bushnell) are also live, and local.
What's the format?
Just about any music you can think of other than rap, opera, or metal. I'm mostly rock, soul, blues, and jazz, myself.
There's still a few of us left.
