Have not heard what they want to put there, but my guess would be another drug store as the nearest one is over a mile away. The petitioner is United Retail Development Company LLC. The petition doesn't say exactly what they want to put there, but mentions "non-residential uses such as grocery stores, drug stores, day care centers, etc". http://www.wakegov.com/NR/rdonlyres/...titionForm.pdf
When I read it, I read "Activity Center" to mean community center-ish, but now that I think about it, I doubt it. Likely a gas station or something non-community related.
That's what I would think too but doing a quick search on the developer's name turned up an Eckerd drug store which is a Rite-aid here. Not sure how that could translate into an activity center.
Upon further investigation I found this website: www.unitedretaildev.com which told me to call if there were any questions so I called. It's a small real estate firm who does developments for Eckerd drug stores. The lady who answered said she has the calls forwarded to her home so I kinda felt bad for a few seconds but then remembered the website stating to call if there were any questions and the bad feeling went away. She said she didn't know exactly what was going to be built in Wake Forest but again said all they usually build were Eckerds. She gave me the name of the guy who's in charge of the parcel and took my name/number and he's supposed to call me tomorrow.

I initially thought the same thing, but looked it up on the Wake County web site. In their power point presentation about Neighborhood Activity Center the examples show a small shopping center adjacent to a residential subdivision.
There is a Rite-Aid less than 3 miles down the road. I wonder if that one will close. It is in the Food Lion shopping center at US 1 and Hwy 98.
I live very close to that intersection and would HATE IT if it was a Rite-Aid. (I have a unwarranted, deep dislike for detached pharmacy-like stores, although I don't know why.)
Okay, so the man who's "in charge" of this called me back last night. He has confirmed that it is indeed a drug store. However, when I asked if it was a Rite-Aid he said, "No, a competitor." and couldn't/wouldn't say the name. Weird since every other drug store his company builds is an Eckerd. My guess is he's either unfamiliar with the Rite-Aid name and doesn't know that's what the Eckerds in the area have become and the the Rite-Aid at Hwy.98 will close or it will be a Walgreens. Either one is fine with me.
