It's been suggested that I stay away from homes in the Brentwood neighborhood and/or Captial Blvd corridor. I realize appreciation of real estate is less there than some other areas of Raleigh, and that the crime rate in some 'pockets' of the overall Brentwood area should be considered. At the same time, I've been through some streets in and around Brentwood that feature well maintained homes with nice yards. It appears to be a mix of good and not so good.
Can anyone comment on their impression and experience?

there are some good pockets in that area..most of them individuals who have lived in the area for years and are much older

but when you go and drive anywhere outside of that pocket you are inundated with illegals and thugs

i know this because my parents lived in the area and it has grown progressively worse in the 20 years we have lived in Raleigh

Brentwood, when first built, was a good neighborhood with alot of families and such.

Alot of folks didn't move but some kept their homes when they moved and then rented them out. Unfortunately, the rentals just weren't kept up.

Some of the neighborhood is turning around. There are a lot of younger folks buying their first home in that area and another area called Smoketree, that had the same issues.

Hopefully, both areas will continue to improve.

Vicki

I agree that much of Brentwood is now improving. I believe this will continue because the area has so much in its favor: It is very convenient to 440, downtown, Highwoods and North Hills. The houses are well-built and nicely landscaped, for the most part. As other affordable neighborhoods keep getting pricier, more people will look at Brentwood, and its value will increase.

the thing that is going to keep that area down is the insane amount of illegals and cheap housing around it
