It's official...this year was the hottest June on record for Raleigh with an average temperature of 81.3 degrees. Seven daily records were broken and one tied as we had 22 days with highs of at least 90º.
July's off to a great start though...today is beautiful!
I didn't need any stats to tell me that :-)
June was definitely brutal. Looks like we'll get a break from the heat this weekend, then back to 90+ for who knows how long. Enjoy it while you can!
It seems since I moved to Raleigh 6 years ago, I've been "fortunate" to have lived here during some of those hottest/coldest/driest weather records. It makes me worder if my research on "averages" was a waste of time.
Not hard to believe. I have been spending most of my summers in Raleigh for several years now, as well as other short stays throughout the year, and this is by far the longest stretch of hot weather that I have experienced here. Today is more like it.
All in all, I don't think summers in Raleigh is all that bad. Phoenix, Palm Springs, and Las Vegas long and extreme hot temps(even though it's dry)I feel are far worse than Raleigh. Miami and most of Florida, particularly from central down to south Florida has what feels like 5-6 months of summer temperatures with high humidity. At least in Raleigh (not so much in the past 3 weeks) it cools down a bit overnight and into the morning. Even though temps gets in the 90's in Raleigh, you have days in between that the high's may reach lower 80's. That is not the case in in the above mentioned cities.
Oh, one more thing. These temperatures do not last 5-6 months like they do in the cities I mentioned above; not even close.
Just a reminder that this is the *Triangle* forum. If anyone wants to disuss non-local issues -- global warming, for example -- please take it to the Politics & Other Controversis or Weather forums.
Thanks.
