please help! i'm in need of a reception venue in Durham, can be in Raleigh or Chapel Hill but not to far from downtown Durham(i don't want the guest to travel that far) must have the following;
under 1000
can seat up to 150 guest with room for tables and dancing
allows outside catering
allows wine
nice landscaping for pictures
carpet or nice wood flooring
Try theknot.com Lots of brides post their experiences there.
Fletcher Park in Raleigh is definitely under $1000, probably under $500, but you'd have
to set the tables up outside, so a tent might be needed. They allow
outside caterers. I've attended several events there and it is very
pretty.

Check out the message boards on www.theknot.com You'll want the local board for NC. The board may be a little slow, but the girls are very helpful. At one time they had a GREAT blog floating around full of vendors in NC with reviews (good and bad) by the knot girls. I think they call it the NC Knot Bio, or something like that. You can go on and ask for it, or look in the siggy's for a link.
I used to frequent The Knot boards when we were planning and The Barn at Valhalla was popular there. I think the Century Center in Carrboro also does rentals. It has a nice wood floor. The space used to be a church but now it's owned by the town. Town of Carrboro, NC :: 919-942-8541 (http://www.ci.carrboro.nc.us/rp/ccpanoramicpictures.htm - broken link) It doesn't have outdoor space, but it's close to the UNC Campus and some other spots you could go to for pics.
i've been a reception at the barn at valhalla & it was quite charming. the bride was pleased with the pricing & the reception itself. however, i'm not certain of the distance from downtown durham there. perhaps others more familiar with durham/CH could advise.
Naw, no chance of availability if you are talking about the chapel for a ceremony.
