The town of Holly Springs has posted ideas for the possible ordinance on recreation devices in the street. It’s on the town website: http://www.hollyspringsnc.us/gov/agendatc081710/9a.pdf (broken link)
So, it’s listed as part of the agenda for the next council meeting next Tuesday. Three options are listed, the third of which is a “do nothing” option.
One option is to ban “the use and placement of recreational devices on the street” and in the right of way. Another option is just to require that the devices be stored close to a house or accessory structure (I’m assuming this storage option is for when the devices are not in use only).
The council could do nothing, or adopt one of the ordinance options or make one of the options “more or less restrictive.”
Notice how there is no mention about leaving items out overnight...as WRAL would have you believe? In other words...WRAL never checked what was actually said in the meeting that got people angry. HS Sun had a scathing article this week...which was more of a commentary, going off on the major & others who changed their story after the spotlight was on them.
I'm betting on option 3 as the other two would make the council do too much work...but I'll be at the meeting just to make sure...
I'm betting the council will go with option 2. At the last meeting, they were claiming this was just about the devices, not about recreation in the street. Option 2 would let them get the devices out of the street when they're not in use, if I'm reading the ordinance right, while making residents who want kids to be able to play in the street happy, also.
Perhaps Option 2 is what the council really was going for all along. It sure doesn't seem so based on that first council meeting, but at the second council meeting, at least Sears, VanFossen and Williams seem to feel this way. ?
