My husband and I are planning to relocate in a year or two and have started researching areas to move. What are some nice upscale african american mixed communities in Raleigh to raise children, with a good school system.

What do you consider upscale?
I think it's pretty diverse here for the most part, there are no neighborhoods that I know of tht are specifically great for African Americans.

We are looking for nice communities or subdivisions, not just with african american, but a variety of ethnicites. Fairly newer homes in the $250,000 range. Good educational systems a must

Exclamation Ouch! Be careful!

Hi,

You guys should try to refrain from discussing any particulary ethinic group along with real estate, even if it is intended to be a positive conversation. Any mention of a particular eithnic group or race while discussing a place to live is against federal fair housing laws, and could get you or your real estate agent/mortgage broker/landlord in a pickle! It's better to talk about diversity in general, but even then, that can be a gray area. I'm not trying to start anything here, just trying to help. The best way to solve this question is to drive around a few neighborhoods that you like, and see for yourself if it's the kind of community you would like to live in.

Smiles,

Katy

One of my favorite neighborhoods is in Apex but near Cary called Shepard's Vineyard. I think they were built in the 90's, but they have very pretty landscaping and mature yards, a very nice park and pool. I think it is fairly diverse back there.
I'm not an agent, nor do I have one, so I'm not to worried about mentioning specific racial groups in terms of neighborhoods and areas. I can understand why the OP would want to ask the question considering they know nothing about the area.

Thank you for the input, I do understand what you are saying. We are a very diverse family, with adopted children from may ethnicities. I am Trying to find a community to visit when we do come to the area from across the country on a two day visit, not much time to see them all. Any areas you find to be very nice?

It's not against the law for those who are NOT in real estate to discuss African Americans or diversity or anything else like that! I think it's a great question and should not be shrouded in "diversity" if you are specifically looking for areas with black people. I've lived in diverse areas where the diversity did not include blacks.

Yes, I do have strong feelings about this b/c we have an adopted child who is black (we are not black) and we wanted to live where there would be black families in the area. Other ethnicities were a bonus, but specifically we wanted to have black families in the area so he would not be the only black child around.

We are not in Raleigh though, so I can't help you, but I hope others will!

Hi dcomer

It is nice in that it is pretty easy to find mixed neighborhoods in the Raleigh area. Especially in some of the newer developments where you get a lot of people moving in because of relocations.

Apex and Holly Springs are both growing by leaps and bounds and I think you'll be pleased. One thing to consider though is that because of the growth consider the amount of kids pouring into the schools.
