My wife and I are moving in the next week or so. Local move about 7 minutes away (Harrington Pointe to Wynbrooke). It seems that over the years I've aged to the point that I no longer can handle all the hauling and carrying. My wife has convinced me to hire a mover instead of doing it myself [with helpers of course].

Does anyone know of a good mover whose pricing is not going to shock me to the point of doing it myself and probably harming myself in the process. Unfortunately it is hard to teach an old dog new tricks but I am ready to learn.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You need a moving company with an MC#(Motor Carrier#) meaning they are licensed household movers. Look in the phone book or google local "household" moving companies in your area. The are several companies like Mayflower, etc who will likely do it for you. Be aware there are minimum charges because they always charge by weight and distance, so you will fall into the "mini". They will be professional arriving on time, blanket wrapping furniture and boxing up breakables. Most important they will be insured for damage. Be sure to document the conditon of all of you main pcs by photos with a newpapaer banner /date next to it. ALso make sure all of your contents are listed upon the bill of lading. BE sure to get an original current insurance certificate from them naming you as the insured party.

If you're not of the opinion you can handle this yourself, then don't do it, because your health is priceless.

You could hire some college students with a truck but you would have to supervise them yourself and you would be responsible for any problems they incur because of no insurance. One problem or an accident, and down the tubes you will go. You may even be sued by an injured party for hiring non licensed movers whom you aren't related to by family.

Do the right thing and stick with legitimate movers.

TROSA..one of my coworkers used them for a shorter distance move and she had great things to say about them. I have also heard they are very affordable.

Default Check out my blog...

for advice on evaluating movers. I also Recommend TROSA. All the Right Moves and Two Men and a Truck, especially ATRM, are great for local moves.

I used Movin' On Movers and was very happy with the job they did (price was reasonable as well).
