That's very disappointing...

I know that my company would like to hire several folks, but they are going to wait until January to decide if this will actually happen.

Hopefully other companies "will get off the pot" and do some hiring in the new year.

I never realized we were that far below the updated 9.8% national unemployment rate.

That is true. In Orlando here, it's 11.2%.

I don't think the % tells the whole story; I think job applicants in this area face significant competition
from out of state applicants. (I don't know how that could be quantified)

So, according to the article, our unemployment rate is below the average AND it is lower than it has been? Wow. Great news. I have heard of a few companies that will be hiring in January!
