we're having a problem with camel crickets and it's really starting to offend me. I'm really reluctant to use pesticides, especially indoors, but this problem seems to be getting worse and my parents are coming for Christmas and I know my mom will flip out if she sees these things.

I would normally turn to Bug Man (we're in Durham) but they don't list these critters as one of the pests they handle on their web site. If anyone has had any success with this problem, please let me know.

Camel Crickets inside your home?
Any pest control company should handle that.

None really want to tell you they will keep them out of a crawl space, but you shouldn't have to put up with them in the house.

I would call them and confirm.

I use diatomaceous earth for everything! It works really well, it's much cheaper than a pest control service and it's fine for organic use. As a matter of fact, some people eat it and feed it to their pets for parasite control. I've never done that but I've used it on my chickens and it worked for them.

"Use a Diatomaceous Earth product. Diatomaceous Earth (DE) is is made from finely ground fossiles of prehistoric fresh water diatoms. It is a mechanical insect killer rather than chemical. Insects therefore cannot develop immunity to it, and it does not adversely affect the environment in the way chemicals would. It’s also non toxic to humans or pets."

If you have camel crickets, 98 times out of 100 your crawlspace is a damp environment and they are coming in from there. It may not be overly damp now since the humidity season has passed, but they found it an appealing environment in the spring/summer and will stay around. Fix the environment or they will just return next spring if you kill them with chemicals.

STOMP pest control was recommended to me by another member on this board and they were great. Professional, reasonably priced, no hard sell. However, I do second the DE suggestion

We had camel crickets in the crawlspace when we moved here 12 years ago. We did a one shot deal with Aardvark Exterminating and never saw another one. We've been on a termite plan with them since. We can live with all the other bugs and spiders
