I recently posted a thread regarding our family's move to the Raleigh area. More than likely, we will need to rent an apartment for a few months until we can get to know the area better and search for a new house. We are most interested in purchasing a home in Cary or Apex, however the rent there is higher than what we want to spend on a temporary place (we are looking for a short-term lease and don't need anything big or expensive). We are ok with renting in the city of Raleigh and have looked at a few apartments online but in our experience here in Columbus, the lower the rent to more shady the area. Obviously we want to be in a nice, safe neighborhood. I don't want to pay $400 per month in rent but need to keep burglar bars on our windows!
Interesting that you are not from the area, but you have determined that Raleigh is much less expensive than Cary or Apex. I strongly suggest that since you have decided that you will be buying in Cary or Apex, you just may want to apartment live in Cary or Apex.

Actually a HUGE footprint of what is considered within the "city limits" of Raleigh is actually in the suburbs.
Heck almost all of "North Raleigh" is within the city limits but it is just as suburban as any of the bedroom communities you have mentioned your other posts. I dare say that more than 90% of the people who call Raleigh home don't live in what most would consider "the city".
We are doing a furnished rental apartment for 3 months at the northridge crossings apartments in north raleigh, we got the rec from someone on this board, I think saturn something was the screenname. Anyway the ratings on apartments.com was better than most places and it was the least expensive furnished option, the shortest lease is 3 months. We are coming in april so I will report back if it was a good experience there.

I hope you enjoy it as much as we have.
Just renewed for our 6th lease at Northridge Crossings.
Hey saturn! Thanks for the recommendation! I guess we'll be neighbors soon.
