Do you find yourself staying close to home most of the time or do you find yourself exploring the area to see what you come across? I'm always amazed how many times someone says to me they never knew of something when I tell them about it. I'm starting to think people go to work and straight back home and never explore anything. They don't know what they are missing. It cracks me up when people say they are bored. I'm thinking, well duh, leave the neighborhood once in a while.
This is a great thread...I know you're making a statement, but maybe we can turn it into a question.

I've got a few:
S&T Soda Shoppe in Pittsboro - love love love this place
Umstead Park - really cool, especially if you have a dog, the big creek is a neat spot to hang by
Tobacco District in Durham - that whole area near the ballpark is AWESOME to explore and take pictures
Duke & UNC campus'
Kind of general, I'm sure people who are more familiar have more specific recommendations, would love to hear them.
I'm with you, Venice, I'm always surprised when people haven't been to the next town over. Like it's another country. I've met many who are almost phobic about going places they've never been before.
In this time of Mapquest and GPS I'm not afraid to explore anything, and I do intend to find many reasons to visit a variety of places in NC.
On the flip side, gas is expensive and I don't do nearly as much sunday driving as I used to. Usually the places I explore are led by my kids activities. So if a kid has a volleyball game in the next town, we'll find a new place to get dinner afterwards.

I was born in Durham, grew up in Raleigh, and since then have lived in Durham, Carrboro, Chapel Hill and Cary.
Even when I go back to visit, I still go to Chapel Hill for A Southern Season (and Caffe Driade), Durham for the Museum of Life and Science (and Guglhupf), and I'm looking forward to Pullen Park's concessions opening back up in Raleigh.
But I have overheard people in Chapel Hill saying "I've never been to Raleigh", so I know it is not unusual for folks in the Triangle to each stay in their own little corner.
Hope this thread catches on! I just moved to the area in the last few weeks and am trying to explore anything and everything so I hope to pick up some must-do's from here.
Any advice for fun activities for a single, recent college grad? I'm living in downtown Durham/Brightleaf area right now, but I am sure I haven't seen everything there is to offer. What do I HAVE to do?
My wife and I were out every weekend driving around the Triangle--mostly Raleigh. Since moving here in 2009, we have expanded our explorations to include the coast, mountains, and the I-40 corridor from Raleigh to Wilkesboro.
We have been to Waynesville 3 times, Winston-Salem 4-5 times, Greensboro, Halifax, Henderson, Little Washington, Plymouth, Elizabeth City, OBX, IBX, Seagroves, Lumberton, Louisburg, Oxford, etc, etc, etc...
