Yesterday I finally took my girls to the State Fair. They enjoyed the kid's rides but it is very expensive. I have two kids and some of the rides was 3-4 tickets=$6-$8 for 2 kids on a 3 minute ride.
Did anyone else find it to be very expensive? Is the prices normal compared to other state fairs?

Since the fair is only here for one week I would expect it to be expensive. I'm going this afternoon so I'll post back later to let you know if it's anymore expensive than previous years but I'm expecting the usual cost.
I would never pay full price for the rides at the fair - $1 a ticket?! That's crazy. Buy them in advance I think you save about 40%. You can also buy the admission ticket in advance which saves a couple of bucks. Now paying $4 for cotton candy irks me, but my daughter had chicken tenders for lunch for $4 and DS a corndog for $3 and that wasn't too bad. I also advised them to think about which rides they really wanted to go on, since I wasn't buying any more tix at the fair.
We went on Saturday, I probably spent about $100 altogether. Kids enjoyed it - it was way too crowded when we went last year and we did and saw NOTHING. This year we went early Saturday and they went on rides, played games, saw the animals, and got their treat of choice, we were done by 1:00.
I've never been to another state fair but I've been to amusement parks and local fairs with rides and they are just as expensive if not moreso.
Food prices at the fair are up this year but not anything out of the ordinary for a fair. Wholesale prices went up so food prices do and then you factor in additional increase cause it is a fair and viola you have expensive!!
My 7 year old did not want to go this year since when we went last year it was like standing in line for 10-20 min to get on a ride of 2 min. My experience with State Fair is comparable to Frankies in terms of less fun for more money.
The fair is one of those places where you should not go unless you plan on spending some money. I did save money by buying ride tickets ahead of time. The food was expensive. But isn't the food always expensive when you go to the movies, hockey games, etc? The price didn't stop us from eating gyro platters, funnel cakes, fried oreos, ribbon fries, and Italian sausage. I've waited a whole year for those unhealthy treats and went to the fair hungry just to enjoy the foods. Yummy!
Well I'll add my gripe to the whine-fest: Why do those over 65 get into the fair for free? I understand discounted prices for seniors, but do we really have to make it totally free for them? Couldn't the state charge them half-price or some discounted rate so the rest of us don't have to completely subsidize their attendance?
The fair is insanely expensive. We don't go unless we buy discounted tickets in advance. We also carry bottled water and eat good before we go. Each of us gets our favorites but that's it. There are places that I've gone to my whole life...I usually stop by there.
