10$ an hour is the going rate where I live. I can't believe it's that high but that's what it is. It's tough on young families to be able to go out and have couple time. I'm glad my kids don't need one anymore.
We're in CHapel Hill, 2 kids. I pay $10 for our local HS students in the evenings and on weekends, although some have quoted me 8 or 9. I also pay $10 for a UNC student some mornings to watch only one child (the other's in school, would be more for the UNC student to watch two).
I had good luck calling Meredith College and having them post on their "babysitter board". Stick with juniors and seniors. Less luck with Peace College. In this economy, I wouldn't pay more than 8 an hour.
The education students at Meredith do class required work with the preschools near the college. When I had kids at those preschools the teachers would tell you which college kids were good with the kids.. I think they had a babysitting list...That would be a valuable recommendation...
That is dirt cheap compared to up here. You dont even want to know.
