I recently relocated back to the area and have found some new places. I am generally reluctant to try new chinese food without a recommendation. Any good recommendations near NC State, or within a 15-20 min drive?
thanks!

I've heard good things about Bean Sprout, but never been there.

Cary is located within 15-20 minutes, and you have two GREAT options.

Superwok at the corner of Maynard and Chatham (in Chatham Square Shpg Ctr.) and Taipei 101 in Downtown. Both have been discussed enough here, that if you search the forums for them, you can get a feel for what they are (very authentic) and if it appeals to you.

(Couple recent reviews of Superwok were not so flattering, but hopefully they are not slipping!)

I've only eaten at Jade Garden once. It was good until about an hour after I finished. I've never been so sick! It took me about three or four days to recover. I still cringe when I drive by.

It could have been a fluke but my experience makes me afraid to go back.

I've not been there in years, but there was a time when I had that place on speed dial. LOL!

Depends on your definition of "good" Chinese food. Relatively speaking, Beansprout is alright. I haven't tried any other places near NCSU. Outside of that distance, there are a few places on Capitol Blvd that are a definite step up.

For standard American-Chinese fare, Beansprout and Jade Garden are good. Avoid Golden Dragon on Hillsborough like the plague. That other Chinese place on Hillsborough, next to Shakedown Street, is okay when drunk or hungover.
