I don't know if is a result of the recent rain we had here in the Triangle, but I had a Huge white Mushroom appear in the middle of my front yard literally overnight ! It was like magic. Is this a common occurrence in this area? I have never seen a mushroom appear out of nowhere like that!

For a minute I thought it might be part of one of those mysterious things called a "Fairy Ring" but alas, there was only one big mushroom and no ring. I gues may yard isn't all that magical after all!

Mushroom in my front yard

Mushrooms in the yard are a common occurrence. All it takes is enough water to keep the soil wet for a little bit. I've heard that the mushrooms are caused by decomposition of old tree roots from the trees that were torn out when clearing the lot. I don't know if that is true or not, but it seemed to make enough sense to me that it stuck.

Overnighters (mushrooms) will probably occur more often now with the morning dew getting a bit heavier on the grass. Also this is just me, but they seem to occur more in a fescue lawn, after a rain or like I mentioned a heavier dew on the lawn.

lol Sunny! Still troll hunting,

We have had an incredible amount and variety of mushrooms this summer in our backyard. We have TONS of shade, so lots of moist grass. Plus we took a tree down over a year ago, so we have rotting roots under some of the grass...often the cause of fairy rings (hate to burst your magical bubble).

That is another thing that was so odd about this mushroom. It popped up in the middle of my front yard that gets direct full sun all day long!

Thanks for bursting my magical bubble!

NRG...Take a deep breath and step away from your keyboard. Quickly.

Lie down. Seeing a HUGE mushroom and fairy rings could be a sign of spending too much time in front of the computer!

Or, it could be the rain and humidity!

Thanks for the laugh!!! AND the photo!

Vicki

I've been picking mushrooms the last few days...they do pop up overnight, like magic. And, yes, they're in full sunlight. You'd think they'd prefer shady lots.

I gather them so that the dogs don't get into them. No sense in taking chances.
