We are preparing for a move to NC (from NJ) in the next two months. We're not looking to spend a fortune on moving boxes and was wondering if anyone has recommendations where we can obtain quality moving boxes for a reasonable price. We are likely to need a mix of 75-80 mixed size boxes.

Go to your local liquor/abc store. Tons of strong mid sized boxes for free.

If you live near a Costco they have a moving kit for about $40 which has a very large number of boxes and taping supplies etc. Many times cheaper then other sources of boxes we had. Unfortunately we discovered them at the tail part of our packing.

Would cost about $220 for the amount of boxes you need. Is that too much? We spent a bunch on boxes underestimating how many we would need but we also used them to cover and protect glass stuff along with old sheets and blankets. I never want to move again

I looked in the classified section of the newspaper. Their are guys who make their living buying boxes form giant corporate moves etc. They have a range of prices and sizes. He had wardrobe boxes, the ones that have dividers for dishes. All of them were really reasonable.

Some Uhaul places have a "free bin" for boxes. The also sell boxes but some have the previously used boxes that others drop off for free.

We regularly canvased grocery stores, penney's and stables for their great sized paper boxes. Got to know the managers and they were all very cooperative. I would not spend one cent on boxes when businesses crush them by the hundreds all day long. Speak to the manage to find out what days and times they get deliveries and when would be a good time. Always call first and never ask them to hold anything for you. That makes them mad. Large Egg Boxes from the crogery stores are strong and great.
