Bedford has won so many awards for the n'hood that I can't find anything negative about it!
Vicki
The location?
Honestly. That's the only negative. But, it's only a negative for people who aren't interested in the far North Raleigh/Wake Forest area. Otherwise, I think it's all personal preference.
I know people who love it there. And people who don't.

The location? North Raleigh?!!
Ok, Ms. Cary!
Seriously...I don't live in Bedford (although many of the Agents from my office do) so I have no ulterior motives here!

Hehehe. What I said was that I agree with you. Any negatives to Bedford would be things like location (if one didn't prefer the area) and really just personal preferences. It's a nice place as large developments go.

Traffic will be much, much better once the Falls expansion is done. It's ahead of schedule and will really alleviate much of the rush hour backups. There are kids galore here and many parks within the neighborhood to mix it up. What some people like about it, we dislike. You really are far out there, ie, North Raleigh. Pretty much borders on WF. You'd have everything you need up here which many people love. We enjoy a lot of the restaurants downtown and the 20 minute + commute gets old so we're looking forward to moving closer to downtown. But for what you are looking for it sounds like Bedford will be a good fit.
Thanks so much everyone! It sounds like a really nice place. We are originally from Boston and are used to small lots and close neighbors so that's not a problem. I'm just curious what some people mean by the location. Since we haven't visited yet I'm not too familiar with the general area. Is Bedford in the middle nowhere other then what's right by the development?

No. It's not in the middle of nowhere.
Bedford isn't in an area where you could easily walk to lots of restaurants and shopping, though. Then again, that is true of most suburban housing around here.
It IS close to I-540, so it's very easy to drive to most any sort of shopping/dining.
It's a bit farther from RTP than areas like W. Cary, Morrisville, and/or Durham.
These things may or may not matter. It's individual preference, really.

Yeah, by "the location", I would say "it's REALLY far out from the core of Raleigh itself" and the traffic getting out there can be a crawl. Since OP would be working from home, that would be greatly assuaged, but they should check out when they're here just how far it is from stuff in downtown if they were thinking of just zipping into downtown or to other places very often.
Let me know if you have any questions. I live by Bedford and enjoy the area immensely. I work in downtown Raleigh and find the commute an easy 20-25 minutes during rush hour. Lots of amenities in close proximity to Bedford (grocery, Whole Foods, local and chain dining, coffee shops, Target, walking trails ect.) If you have any specific questions give me a shout.
