We decided to go with Rex and made our first obgyn appointment at Capital Area in Cary which is linked with Rex.
I too went to Capital Area OBGYN and was very pleased with them. We delivered at Rex and it was a great experience - the nicest nurses anywhere! I'm sure it will be great for you too!
I disagree but what do I know, I just work there and my wife delivered our third child there....
But since I am staff at Duke I must be unhappy
There may be a difference between Duke proper, and Duke Hospitals, you know. What do they run, half a dozen hospitals now? And isn't there a tiered benefits system, where many working at the outlying hospitals (such as Durham Regional) don't have the same benefits package as those at the main hospital.
Sorry to diverge on the thread, but the I've found the complete corporatization of DUMC over the last decade to be a bit disturbing.
Duke hospitals have very unhappy staff and it shows.
Avoid Duke.
Some friends of ours just gave birth at Duke. The baby had a rare condition that required immediate surgery after birth, or else the baby would not be able to breath on her own. A specialist for this condition had to be flown in and the timing was crucial. The surgery went well, and the family thought the NICU did an amazing job during the baby's stay at Duke. They all went home yesterday and had nothing but praise for the care they received at Duke.
So, while others may have had negative experiences at Duke, I thought I'd throw this out there for fairness' sake.
I've also heard good things about the care at Durham Regional.
I gave birth at UNC - Chapel Hill. Though my baby was full-term she had complications and wound up in the NICU. Her care was second to none (and she's fine now). For that reason I chose to go back there for my second child.
Different hospitals have a different birth experience, but my bias is for the best pediatric care, which is at UNC, Duke or Wake. If I had given birth at Rex she probably would have been transferred to UNC (similarly, Western Wake transfers to Wake and Durham Regional to Duke). In that moment, it meant a lot to me not to have to deal with having my baby transferred. Of course, my experience was unusual.
I'm sure the OP gave birth long ago... Moderator cut: removed
I gave birth at Rex and my baby went to Duke under emergent conditions. It depends on the condition (WakeMed does not handle neonatal cardiac) and where has the space available. At least that is what we were told.
