Cary is lovely, but as a single person I would focus more on Raleigh.

My husband and I have live in the area for about a year and a half. While Cary appears clean and safe, we just don't like it here as much as we thought we would. Most of the triangle is sort of bland. I don't know much about where you are coming from but we came from a smaller area, so we noticed right away people here just aren't that friendly. People really don't have a sense of community or speak/smile at you while out and about. Sure there's an occasional person that does but as a whole we just haven't seen it often. It's boring for sure unless you like walking and hanging out at a park. I guess you could go downtown Raleigh, but it's just not impressive. They have some street bands and clubs down there but you'd have to be into that scene, mostly what I call corporate wannabe's are there with a mix of grunge types. We don't have kids so maybe that's the problem, (we're in our 30's). Jobs aren't as easy to come by as you think either. Come see for yourself, but you cannot tell by one day or weekend, you'd need to hang out for at least a couple of weeks. We were disappointed after moving. Wish we had had a week or two to spend here just going about a normal day, then you see the local attitudes. Very bland, no personality, uptight, cold, with an exception here and there. People tell you to join something or get involved, by looking on meetup.com or something. I really didn't see any groups that were for me, but maybe you would. Drivers are the rudest I've seen but then again I am from a smaller town, so.... Good Luck.

Cary, or any spread out town for that matter, is not a singular collective that can be characterized. In my opinion there are good parts, bad parts, friendly parts, snobby parts, etc. that's the problem.. "my opinion". You're getting opinions without a basis of understanding who's supplying them. I read though these and deem some input as true, some as untrue, some as relevant, some as irrelevant. So should you. Find a nice place in the general vicinity, rent for a year, then make your call.
