As a Realtor can't really do that because it's called steering but I can tell you according to statistics, Cary has been consistently ranked among the top ten safest places to live in the country. Hope that helps.

There are good and bad areas of most towns (mostly good). You could actually live in the city of Raleigh and most of it would feel like the burbs. I would stay away from Southeast Raleigh, parts of East Raleigh and certain areas of Durham (I can say that since I'm not a realtor, so sorry if I hurt anyones feelings ). Umm what else, I suggest you do a search on this forum for the good, bad, and the ugly of this area and I'm sure you'll find plenty of info to get you started.
There are just way too many communities in the Raleigh-Durham area to just give you a quick rundown of everything.

I think there are just way too many great neighborhoods in the Triangle to focus on the undesirable ones...
With all due respect, I'm not looking for a real estate agent ... at all.
I am just looking for some general information on undesirable neighborhoods in the Raleigh-Durham region. If you were to move out here, I could tell you, with GREAT distinction, which neighborhoods to completely stay away from.
Is this just a real estate, try-to-find-a-new-lead forum? If so, maybe I'm in the wrong place.
As is goes for me and many other realtors on this forum I am not here for leads at all. I like conversing with people on this forum as well as try to be helpful since I have some knowledge of the area. In no way do I solicit business. It is not my practice.
I want to be helpful but as my profession goes I just cannot steer you to or away from areas based on certain things.
I am only speculating but maybe the reason that not many people have answered your post is that they do not want to offend anyone that maybe living in these areas that they feel may be undesirable to them. People sometimes can feel very hurt and insulted when people don't speak highly of a place that they call home.
I frequently visit other forum on this site and I feel that the Raleigh/Durham is the most active and helpful.

Thanks anyway.
No, it's not just a real estate forum...most folks here aren't in real estate and even better, the agents that are here are very helpful, you shouldn't ignore their advice just to spite yourself. However, what you are asking is not something with a cut and dried answer around here.
You pretty much have to go looking for bad neighborhoods and you'll know them when you see them. You will get much better advice if you let people know what you are looking for instead.
Actually, I think a lot of people have responded to VelvetPie's post. I think the reason why s/he may not be getting the response s/he wants in because this same question gets asked over and over again on these forums. Some members just get tired of answering the same questions repeatedly. That's understandable, right?
VelvetPie, the Triangle is quite big, so that's one reason why people may have trouble giving you specific information. In general, we tell new comers to the area that they will probably want to avoid southeast Raleigh and east central Durham. Those are the bigger areas for crime, although I'm told that nice neighborhoods can be found there if you know where to look. Other than that, the Triangle is actually quite safe and family-friendly. Really.
Now, if you tell us what you're looking for instead of what you're not looking for, then we might really be able to help!
