Can anyone recommend an authentic caribbean (preferably jamaican) restuarant in the triangle? I am sorely missing trinbago! They had the best roti! I've been to Jamaica Jamaica. I don't think the meat (oxtail, curry goat) is seasoned enough. I only go to Blue Corn Cafe for the tostones....I would appreciate any suggestions, even really good carryouts. I am getting hungry just waiting for your responses.

I am wondering the same thing too!! I would hate to have to come back to NY once a month after we get settled in Raleigh at the end of June.

Talking fingers crossed

Restuarants are the only hard part. I get bun, cheese, cola champagne, and other things from Leon's in Durham. Whenever I visit family in DC, Orlando, or NY they think I am crazy when I go nuts for carryout. Hopefully someone knows of a great place.

There's a Jamaican place in Harrisson Pointe Shopping Center in Cary but I have not tried it out yet so can't give it a review. We do plan to try it out soon though!

I posted this to the "cuba" thread the other day, but thought I shoudl mention it here too. I saw yesterday that a new Cuban restaurant is opening up soon on Chatham Street in Cary.

I don't know much about the area, we have only been on a few "house hunting trips" but, we did eat at the Bahama Breeze in N. Raleigh, on Wake Forest Dr., Exit 10, off I440, it seemed to have alot of choices, not sure it was Caribbean ?

Bahama Breeze is to Caribbean what Olive Garden is to Italian.

When they brought tostones smothered in chunky salsa and cheese, I knew we were doomed. Their food isn't bad, it's just not authentic.

Best Caribbean is my wife's cooking.

Likewise. I keep meaning to try it.

The Jamaican restaurant in Cary is called Cooling Runnings. They have a modest web presence at Cool Runnings - Eat. Drink. Save Money..

There's a pretty good Cuban Restaurant "Carmens" in Durham across from the Airport mall (turn into the mall and it is in the little strip mall on the right. URL = index. They have Salsa dancing every Tuesday and on some weekend nights.

Cool Runnings in Cay (mentioned above) has pretty decent Jamaican food.

There's a place called "Jamaica Jamaica" in the intersection of 55 & 54 in Durham. The owner is half cuban and half panmanian so they have jamaican and some cuban and PR dishes.

In downtown Raleigh there is the Oakwood Cafe which is next to the post office. They are open for lunch and for dinner on Friday and Saturday. The owner is from Argentina and he cooks Argentinian and Cuban and American food.

I hope this helps!

Berto
