My friend has a major birthday coming up and I would love to buy her a nice piece of authentic North Carolina pottery. The state fair had a great selection, but I'm going to need it for May. Is there anywhere locally to buy it year-round?
I did check etsy but nothing jumped out at me. I think I remember reading about a pottery trail you can drive and hit a bunch of potters, but I don't know how far they are from Raleigh and don't have a ton of time to shop around. Any other ideas?
There's also a Seagrove Pottery store in Carrboro near the ArtsCenter and the NC Crafts Galllery inCarrboro usually has a good selection too. There's a fellow who sells at theCarrboro Farmers Mkt too.
You could just go to Seagrove too if you want to see the place most famous for NC Pottery in the state. It's near Asheboro. Lots of authentic styles and glazes there.
Both Cedar Creek Gallery and Seagrove are great. Right now, Cedar Creek has their spring pottery and glassware festival going on...until 4/14. See link below.

If you're willing to head 30 minutes down Rte. 1 Sanford has a big pottery district. Probably too late for you but on May 5th they're having a Pottery festival.
The shop in the NC Museum of History sells "North Carolina handmade pottery from Ben Owen III, Jugtown, and many others" as well as other products from NC. Their selection is probably more limited than the other places mentioned but I think they carry very nice pieces. I always discover other NC products I wasn't aware of and that's fun. Also, shopping here has the added bonus of allowing you to also visit the NC Museum of Natural Sciences, and other interesting places in the area, although visiting any one of the museums is more than enough for one trip for me.
He lives in Brentwood, and last week had a "First Annual" art show at home, which was a great success. More people may join him in that effort next year.
There are lots of talented, creative people in Brentwood.
Seagrove has a store in Cameron Village in Raleigh. Beautiful stuff and a great selection.

Seagrove is no longer in Cameron Village. They have locations in Carrboro and Seagrove.
