Well Acme and Lantern don't have kids' menus, but they both do have outdoor seating now and depending on the baby I think it wouldn't necessarily be a big deal. If you've got a fussy babe, maybe another place would be better, but if you've got a quiet one who's just going to snooze in a sling then I think it would be a non-issue.

Venable does have a kids' menu and excellent food if that would make you more comfortable.

Oh, there's always Crook's, too, speaking of outdoor seating...

This is a great suggestion. Love that place!

Lightbulb Panzanella

Try Panzanella:

Carrboro's Community-Owned Italian Eatery*|* Panzanella

As a side note, my wife and I took our then 1.5 year old to Elaines on Franklin.... while they did sit us in the back, I think most restaurant owners would not mind if you decided to do dinner early. (Our reservation was 5:30 or 6pm)

I have to admit I'd be annoyed with there being small children at a fine dining place like Elaines. And it's not just about a kid's behavior - the presence of young kids alters the atmosphere of the place. I hope that doesn't sound too snobby - I just would encourage the OP to select a place that is at least semi-casual.

Panzanella is having their farm dinner this weekend featuring fresh ingredients from local farms. Farm Dinners

Panzanella is family-friendly and also has outdoor seating.

I sent my sister to Vimala's yesterday and she and her husband were overwhelmed by her hospitality.

I agree entirely. We're definitely aiming for semi-casual because of that.

While we're on the topic, kid friendly brunch in Chapel Hill? We usually default to Weathervane but last time I had brunch there it was meh.

See Panzanella above. Or Elmo's Diner.

Have been to Acme for brunch with friends, including kids, and it was fine. Maybe it's more upscale at dinner but laid back at brunch? Brunch was very good there - especially the donuts!
