Deer hunting could soon be a reality within the city limits of Durham as council members will discuss an ordinance that would allow bow hunting.
Other cities like Chapel Hill, Concord and Oak Ridge not only allow bow hunting, but also take part in the urban archery program which extends the season.
In 2012, 38 North Carolina towns held urban archery seasons, including Chapel Hill, Pittsboro and Smithfield. Commissioners in Wake Forest voted earlier this year to establish an urban archery season.
Some say it could help control the deer population but others disagree.
If city council approves the ordinance in October, bowhunting can take place during the state deer season which runs from September through December.
I'll gladly donate freezer space to store venison!
Wake Forest needs to do this as well, if they haven't already. Last I heard there was a big debate, one side hated the inner city deer and wanted them gone, and some thought they were a lovely addition to the town!

Are they just targeting the deer that were bored and moved from Cary?
<think the T-shirt thread>. Sorry, slow day at work.
They don't actually move here from Cary, they come here for the food and the DPAC, and then they go back. If they moved here they'd have to send their fawn to DPS.
Isn't that like saying deer hunting may soon begin in Durham county? Every time I cross the Durham county border I it seems I see a "Welcome to the county and city of Durham" sign.

Auto body shops LOVE them!
Am I only one that has two deer whistles installed. I havent hit a deer yet, but I wish they make a bug whistle they love splattering on the windshield.
This might happen of messing with deer in Durham's bad neighborhoods.
