Cities: Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill, Cary, Morrisville, Garner, and Carrboro. Nothing for Apex, Holly Springs, or Wake Forest
AT&T is already wiring Apex and RST is supposed to be working with WakeForestFiber/Triangle Fiber. All is not lost there. Holly Springs? Eh, they just got a Walmart right? Baby steps.
The day I can cancel TWC is the day I do a happy dance. Crossing my fingers we see some of their service get turned on this year. 2016 is probably more likely. I will be curious to see what areas get this, because Raleigh is suburban sprawl.

Ironically Holly Springs already has a fiber network. NC law prohibits them for using it for anything except government purposes, however. Hopefully that law will be overturned in the near future.
Even if Google Fiber doesn't make it's way to these other towns, it may make the general landscape more competitive. I don't put much stock in AT&T's announcement, though. They have a poor track record when it comes to actually implementing these 'big plans' - and even if they do, who would want to get fiber service from them? All a faster pipe would accomplish is to make you hit your usage cap more quickly.
The fast speed and television channel line up make google fiber very attractive to me. It's a few dollars more than what I pay now, but it's twice as many channels, a DVR (which I've never had) and lots of bandwidth for my Netflix hungry teenagers. Oh, and lets not forget -- no more TWC or Uverse.
