Have you looked at Creedmoor? My idea is that Creedmoor is the next Cary/Holly Springs/Fuquay Varina. It is a small, currently undiscovered town, but there are some communities that are just starting to be built.
Also, Oxford, NC. We live there now and my husband commutes to Durham 2 days a week. Takes about 30 min. Also it's a very un-stressful drive, usually very little traffic. He used to commute from Fuquay Varina to Durham and that was NOT fun at all, especially Hwy 55. We also go there on the weekends for fun activities and such. A very cute town and extremely homey.

I still love the way it looks though. IT's custom, and on a huge lot, in a very quiet nice neighborhood. Something to think about if you don't mind being farther from society.
