OP - I checked out Brier Chapel's home that are now ready for sale. They are around $278k, shotgun style, on a few yards of land You can shake hands with your neighbor thru the window.

You might want to check out subdivisions Hawthorne, Stonehenge and Point Creek in N. Raleigh. Older homes, around $325k with mature yards.

Also - Alyson pond subdiv.

The sweet spot in Raleigh is a straight line between North Hills and Whole Foods on Wade Ave.

Yep, that a great area of Raleigh for folks commuting on I-40. One of my fav areas of Raleigh!

I should have noted that the places I mentioned are convenient to I-540, hwy 70 and the Durham freeway.

I'd look at the neighborhoods around Southpoint Mall.

We are moving to North Raleigh, around the Six Forks Rd/Sawmill Rd area. My husband works in Durham and will hop on 540/40 and it's about a 30 minute drive, give or take. I like that he has some alternate routes to go as well. Lots to do in that area of Raleigh.

Have you looked at Creedmoor? My idea is that Creedmoor is the next Cary/Holly Springs/Fuquay Varina. It is a small, currently undiscovered town, but there are some communities that are just starting to be built.

Also, Oxford, NC. We live there now and my husband commutes to Durham 2 days a week. Takes about 30 min. Also it's a very un-stressful drive, usually very little traffic. He used to commute from Fuquay Varina to Durham and that was NOT fun at all, especially Hwy 55. We also go there on the weekends for fun activities and such. A very cute town and extremely homey.

http://www.realtor.com/realestateand...22-56948?row=1 I loved the way this home looked on the outside but my husband didn't like it on the drive by from the outside so we didn't ever see the inside. I still love the way it looks though. IT's custom, and on a huge lot, in a very quiet nice neighborhood. Something to think about if you don't mind being farther from society.
